The thing w/ us Indians is that we think complex procedures such as building an economy or building a sports team can be done if a lot of money is poured into it or if someone with a lot of money is introduced into the sport.

I don't see MAyawati making that statement other than for gaining political mileage. I have read and re-read Mayawati's biography and nowhere in her bio does it state she has managed a sports team. ANd never in her career has she even tried. So her making that statement is just a political mileage ad campaign.

Indian hockey suffers from a variety of factors:

1. Political games and excessive factioning- Senior players and assistant coach forming an alliance against juniors players and coaches for example.
2. COMPLETE apathy towards the sport from Govt. In that angle, why is cricket thriving so much in India? Because u hve a lot of Indians watching it in their homes and in stands. But hockey matches usually are very dull in comparison. In a national mat ...more

Why nobody took hockey seriously ? Why state govt. is not encouraging hockey at state level. Why there is hue and cry on it now when national team is suffering.

Everybody wants to gain milage out of this and nobody wants to remain behind...Mayawati is no exception to it......
