The letter from which this reference is made was not written in the context of the cost of production but in regard to post-production costs between the well head (at the seabed) and delivery point (at Onshore terminal in Kakinada), which at that time (2009-10) was estimated as $0.89 per mmbtu. The figure of $.89/mmbtu was required because royalty was to be paid at the well head value, which had to be derived by subtracting the post well head cost ($0.89 per mmbtu) from the approved price of $4.2 per mmbtu. This figure of post well head cost cannot be considered as cost of production, as it does not include expenditure incurred by RIL on exploration, appraisal, development production, maintenance, etc. Therefore, the allegation that the cost of production is less than $1/mmbtu is misleading.

I have not come across any such news. But if it comes from RIL sources, there is no reason to doubt. But one thing is sure, that many industrialists do not show their actual cost of production to cheat the public n the Govt. This is done with the connivance of corrupt babus n politicians,
