Suchitra Sen, the popular Bengali actress of the 1950s, has been admitted to a hospital for respiratory infection and chest jamming. Sens debuted as an actress in 1952 with Shesh Kothaay. She was paired up with Uttam Kumar in Sharey Chuattor. The movie was a big hit and gave birth to the legendary pair of Uttam-Suchitra. Pl. throw some light on her filmi career.

Suchitra sen made her debut in Hindi films as Paro in Bimal Roy's Devdas. Suchitra Sen and Uttam Kumar formed one of the most enduring romantic screen pairs during the golden-era of Bengali cinema - the most popular actress that Bengali Cinema has ever seen. A then somewhat conservative Bengali mind learns to love singing "Ei Poth Jodi Na Sesh Hoy Tobe Keon Hoto".. Retired from the film industry in 1978 and has since gone into seclusion. As a devotee of the Ramakrishna Mission, she has immersed herself in meditation and prayer and outside of her home; she has confined her visits to Belur Math (the mission's headquarters). She did very few films in Hindi and is best remembered for portraying the beautiful but egoistical Paro opposite Dilip Kumar in Bimal Roy's adaptation of Sharatchandra Bandyopadhyay's classic Devdas. May she get well soon. She is an asset to bengali cinema. No other actress can ever match her. She is feather in the head of all bengalis we all bengalis are proud of her and pray for her well being
