Rather than cleaning rivers, building dams, planting trees, safeguarding forests, increase animal population like buffelo, cows, bullocks etc, giving importance to agriculture, why people are investing only in real estate and prices of houses are going up every year.

You are right, but there is a saying, whatever the govt. takes in hand, it begins to disappear.
The earth was not so bad before the governments tried to make it beautiful. The took the forests in their hands.
The forest department was to issue licenses to contractors to fell trees of certain number every year. But the contractors greased palms of the officers and fell hundred times more trees than they were licensed to. The fact has been subdued and the tribes have been held responsible for the depletion of the jungle areas. Thus the govt officials have always misused their power for making money out of the way. They sold jungles. The small dams and culverts were raised on papers they nowhere exist. Thus the grazing land for the cattle has reduced; this also left an evil impact on the rains. The rearing of cattle is possible only where there is enough land for them to graze grass. Since most of the land is being converted in to agricultural land, the encroachment on their area ...more
