I don't think he can win the peace prize. The SL troop conduct on the ground esp during operational stages was way below par. U absolutely cannot have a contender for a Nobel Peace prize citing a military operation....peace and military operations are contradictory.
U have military operations 'coz u don't have peace.
Why confuse peace and war? He may win an "military success" award not a peace prize in my books. He does deserve a military award considering the SL troops DID do what the much more sophisticated IPKF could not....

Nope. He is at loggerheads with both E.U. & U.S. for human rights violation and BBC has a video showing how the troops shot dead surrendered LTTE leadership as well as how they treated civilian Tamils before and after the war at camps. There were also reports about the food for sex in such camps. Finally, the conduct of Presidential election and arrest of opposition leader and former General Fonseka does not go well with the moralistic West which would definitely prevent people like Rajapaksha getting any prize. Rather, they would try to book him for committing crimes against humanity.
