Q.

There are no proper checks or raids at children's shelters across Maharashtra. There is no official body to monitor them and there could be several children who are victims of child abuse in these shelters. Do you think this is also required on priority???

Children are the future of our country. And children who suffer abuse will not be well adjusted adults. So the country will be at loss for our asset ie children will not grow as national assets but liability. Hence this should be topmost priority.

In India unfortunately, a large number of children are denied their right to survival. There is a need for an emergency outreach service to respond to the immediate needs of children for medical assistance, shelter and protection from abuse.

The lack of awareness amongst children / concerned adults about existing services was a primary reason for these services lacking success. Although, a comprehensive resource directory of existing services, a mandate of CHILDLINE, helps ensure optimum utilization of services.

A partnership between government and non- government organizations is essential to effectively reach out to children in need. The CHILDLINE strategy therefore elicits and encourages this partnership so essential for a child friendly protection system.

Most programs are not sympathetic to childrens decisions, views and opinions. They remain mere recipients of help without empathizing with their actual needs. This acts as a barrier for building trust amongst children. ...more

Poverty, if not the Mother, is the Aunt of all most of the evils. Even if someone is sexually harassing the poor children, the children won't dare to utter a word for fear of losing the shelter. These things come up only when someone provokes the children and that someone does it, many a times, for gaining control over the institution. And its not just the homeless children, this year we had news of sexual exploitation of girls staying in hostel, pursuing their B.Ed. course, by professors.
The 7 years maximum imprisonment is not enough. It should be a life term with attachment of all the assets of the accused.
