The BEST PLACE in Mumbai is MAHIM. -- Rly. stn., Bus depot, Schools, Beach, Temple, Church, Mosque and last but not the least Fish/Vegetable Bazaar all within easy reach

It depends on the purpose - for residencial, it is Carter road or Band Stand (both in Bandra West)
for slums, it is Dharavi, for office area, it is Bandra- Kurla Complex or Nariman Point, for shopping, it is Linking Road in Bandra West, for bars and restaurants, it is entire Bandra West.

Mahim (West), no doubt! Next comes Bandra for me - Carter Road, Hill Road, Pali Hill, Band Stand.
Napean Sea road, Malabar Hill, Nariman Point, Colaba, Worli, Prabhadevi, Matunga/ King's Circle some other really good places in Mumbai.
