I don't see South Indians or North Indians being more talented or less talented than each other. Both have well developed and mutually complementary musical traditions. I respect both Carnatic and Hindustani music and I don't respect people who debase either for no valid reason.
Frankly speaking to sing in South indian film Music you need excellent Classical background because of the songs being produced out there and North indian playback singers except say for Suresh Wadkar ,Sonu Nigam,Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Asha Bhosle etc..otheres all are just singing normal time pass songs(I am talking here about 90's singers). I think they don't sing just talk fast; the background music does the remaining.
Just look at the SIngers like Hariharan,Shanakar Mahadevan,Srinivasan ,Kavita Krishnamoorty etc..
They are trained in Carnatic/Hindustani Music that's why they have come down to north and become popular the reason that south indians are better is because they have good roots in class ...more

They are excellent and highly talented just as others are in other languages. One can appreciate a singer and the meaning of the song only if we get to understand the meaning of the words and when we do that, we would all the more appreciate the rendition of a song for the superb manner in which they change the tones or pitch to make it very pleasing to hear.
