Encompassing a range of issues and objectives, corporations, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), governments, investment groups and consumers all play a part in the evolving role of the corporation.

The emerging belief that corporations have a greater responsibility to civil society than solely that of driving the economic system through the generation of profits has placed pressure on companies to integrate social and environmental considerations into their business models.
