It is in Rameshwaram that one of the famous and holiest temples in South India is located. The city is in Tamil Nadu. The temple is one among the 12 jyotirlinga temples. It is very auspicious to visit all the 12 jyotirlinga temples. The place is in an island connected to the main land by a huge bridge, the Pampan bridge. It was from this place Lord Ram built the bridge (sethu) to Srilanka to rescue Sita. The Siva idol was installed by Lord Rama himself. The temple is famous for its architectural beauty and elegance with numerous huge pillars and spacious corridors. The temple has 22 wells, though very near to sea, the water is not salty in any of the wells. The devotee can take bath in these 22 wells so that he will be purified from his sins. Out of twelve Jotirlinga in India. , Rameshwar is one of the twelve. Near Rameshwaram there is Dhanushkote where for Rama the Wanar-Sena(Troop of monkies) built the bridge on ocean to Lanka by stones.(In earth quake in last century the bridge not there now). You can also purchase the traditional silk sarees there. In this month only I visited Rameshwaram.
