There was a milkmaid in ancient times. Her period of labour was about to approach. She was agonized with the labour pain. On the other hand, she was worried about the sale of her milk and curd. She was thinking that she will not able to sell the curd and milk when the child takes birth. Her milk and curd will be wasted. When the thought came in her mind she immediately rose up, kept the pitcher of milk on her head and went to sell the milk and curd. She experienced labour pain after covering a short distance. She sat in the shade of a wild berry and gave birth to an infant. She left the infant at that place in her ignorance and went to sell her milk and curd in the village nearby. It was Halshasti on that day. That milkmaid went with the mixed milk of cow and buffalo and deceived the women of village by telling them that it was the milk of buffalo.
