I will rather say 'no'.When it has already been agreed in writing by him a few years back accepting his year of birth as 1951 , he should not have raised the controversy now, at the verge of his retirement. Moreover he has gone to the court against the govt. on this issue is highly condemnable and a very bad move on his part..If at all he wanted to move the court(Rather he should have accepted the govt's decision), he should have first resigned and then moved the court.
Th Attorney Genera lof India considered tyhe issue three times. As did the Appointments Committee of the cabinet(ACC).-with the PM,the Home Minister and the Defence Minister as members-First while appointing him asCorps commander in 2006,then as Eastern Army commander in 2008 and then as cheif of Army Staff in 2010.Finally the Defence Ministry went through the entire sequence since the day he joined army to the present and concluded that 1950 is the legally maintainable year of his birth , while rejecting a statutory co ...more

I feel General is taking it too far at this verge of retirement with a likely bitter turn of events
Govt has already made its stand clear
it is not a solitary case albeit at a high level
govt employees are apt to bring such matters relating to their date of birth, with an intent to increase their government service tenure,so very often especially at lower levels

It is not for tenure but for honour, says Army Chief. He also says that ''my intention is not to fight with the Govt. but to clarify an issue which the Govt. does not try to understand.'' However, the Govt. should have settled the matter within four walls. It should not have been allowed to take such an undesirable turn.

The way defence ministry headed by Antony is treating the Army Chief, i feel general is right in taking the govt to SC. because of the partician politics by Italian Sonia govt even the last institution(ie Army) is dragged into controversy
