As a precautionary measure, people must resort to frequent hand-washing, a balanced diet with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein, sufficient sleep, regular exercise. They must also avoid crowds; avoid shopping malls, movie theaters, public transportation and worship services. Every state should create an "influenza action team" to be run by the local health department, parents, and school administrators.
It is important to separate sick people from healthy people. On domestic and International flights all flight attendants should be given training in how to handle a person with flu and help in communicating to passengers the importance of keeping clean hands. The flight attendants should wear gloves and facemasks to deal with flu-stricken passengers. Airlines should also ensure that passenger cabins are always properly ventilated, including during any flight delays in which passengers are kept aboard the plane.

Apart from the basic hygiene factors that everyone should follow, other precautionary measures could be 1) Boosting your immune system with additional doses of Vitamin C. 2) I am told consuming water with Tulsi in it helps. 3) I am told, Homeopathy has preventive medicine. I guess, it boosts the immune system and works on your respiratory system. All these can be tried on a qualified Doctor's advice.
