Q.

The Swiss authorities use different yardsticks for different countries. The international community needs to prevail upon the Swiss govt. that is was giving shelter to tax thieves, among whom could even be terror groups and criminals. The international community needs to put pressure on the Swiss govt. to change its policies. Comments plz.

Yes indeed it should have been adressed long back byt he international authorities such as the UN, NATO & World bank but i think they are also tied when it comes to the US as it holds the real strings of what & how the show around the world has to be run..i dont think if the countries all over the world decide to put pressure on US then it should be a difficult task to achieve!!

All countries use diff. yardsticks for diff. countries- even the UNITED NATIONS- the global body of ALL counties...does that :) Why is it that a country like Nigeria or Sudan or even India doesn't get veto power in security council even if they may get provisions to become security council members?

The whole wide world knows that Swiss banking became numero uno capo de cappi tuto after hoarding vast amounts of gold deposits from Nazi Germany. After the Nazis were losing in 1944 onwards, the Swiss more or less just "nationalized" those assets :) So they themselfs are big time DEPOSIT thieves :D Leave alone tax thieves.

Not only Swiss, but also places like Cayman Islands, Kish Islands, Monaco etc., do EXACTLY as the Swiss, also neighbouring Luxemborg....well, those are called tax havens...and theyt're called that 4a reason.

In India there is no real effort or will to cull out details from Swiss banks. In my view , several politicians have amassed wealth and deposited in Swiss banks. If we take individual cases, there will be response from Swiss authorities.
We should not forget that no investigation was made even in local Spectrum or fodder scandal. Why we should talk about black money in Swiss Banks? We need more Manmohanjis Narendra Modijis and Vajpayeejis.

According to sources the Swiss bank-client confidentiality has never been 100 per cent absolute and Swiss legislators have built in provisions for it to be lifted during criminal investigations and also in many civil cases and it has also evolved over time.. This crack down of Swiss secrecy is not difficult ,if The USA ,Germany , Britain and India join hands to pressurize and the InterNational Court Of Justice could be Mobilized to create pressure on the Swiss government . This stand of the Swiss banks could be done away easily.

So far adopting double standards is concerned, I think, all countries adopt it to suit their political aims and interests. In case of, big countries, we are aware of how they play the game. I would say that it is inevitable in world politics. India also adopts different standards for different countries. During the hey days of non-alignment under Pandit Nehru, our government and Nehru in particular was highly critical of Anglo-French aggression against Egypt in connection with nationalization of Suez Canal by Egyptian government. Some time later when USSR attacked and occupied Hungary and Czechoslovakia, India kept mum. It was the correct decision since at that time, fate of Kashmir was hanging on USSRs veto.

No Mam. They are not using different yardsticks for different countries. The tax evation is not a crime according to their laws. That's why they didnt give details. If we linked it with crime like terrorism, etc they'll certainly give particulars.

Being an indipendant nation Swistsweland can detemine its policy. There are lots of ppl put their money in Swiss bank and get lots of benifit even though these money are illegal. instead of putting preassure to swiss govt why respective nation not taking preventive action against people who earn thses type of mone. A major group who invest in swiss bank include politicains who make policies for each and every nation. Swiss govt can easily use this accumalated money for varios development purpose. So they are interested to collect the money.
