O you who believe! Intoxicants and gambling . . . are an abomination, of Satans handiwork. Avoid such (abomination), so that you may prosper. Satans plan is only to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the rememberance of God and from prayer. Will you not then abstain?

Allah Taala states in the Holy Quraan: -
O You who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones and (divination by) arrows are an abomination of Satans handiwork. Avoid (such abominations) that you may prosper. (verse five: ninety)
