I am not well versed with the various terms used vis-a-vis our government. Could you please explain terms such as General elections, Assembly elections Minister of State, Cabinet Minister,who qualifies for the Rajya Sabha, Cabinet ,Minister of State, etc. ?

General Election - It means country wide elections to the parliaments
Assembly Election - Every state has a legislative assembly which makes state rules, approve financial matters of the State Government and discuss and decide various events and action plans
The maximum strength of the Rajya Sabha is 250 out of which the President nominates 12 members and 238 are representatives of the States and of the Union territories. The members nominated by the President are persons having special knowledge or practical experience in respect of such matters as literature, science, art and social service. The allocation of seats to be filled by representatives of States and the Union territories is laid down in the Fourth Schedule to the Constitution.

General election is an election for a new term of parliament spread over the whole country. If it is national Assembly election it means the same otherwise if it is State Assembly election it is for a particular state only. A Cabinet Minister in the Prime Minister's Cabinet holds charge of that particular deptt. like Finance or Home and the Minister of State helps him. cabinet is the group of ministers each holding portfolios to help the PM in governance.
The Rajya Sabha is the upper house of the Parliament. 238 members are elected by state and territorial legislatures and 12 nominated by the President. with 6 years terms, one third of the are re-elected every two years.
