Alain Robert, dubbed the French Spiderman for his ascents up some of the world's tallest buildings without climbing gear, will scale one of China's best known mountains in the northern province of Hunan on Nov. 18, the climber said Tuesday.
Robert said he was invited to make the climb in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, also described as China's Yellowstone, by the local government, who at first did not know that he had been thrown out of China.
Robert spent five days in jail in Shanghai and was banned from the country for five years in June after he clambered up and then down the eastern city's famed Jin Mao tower, dressed in a spiderman costume.
"At first I didn't understand that it was going to have such bad consequences. I thought would be just be one, or maybe two weeks in jail. It was only when I was back in France that realized that there was a ban," he told The Associated Press by phone from Hong Kong where he was resting ahead of Sunday's climb.
