Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan, the Indian off-spinner and former umpire, was the captain of the Indian team in the second Test of the five-match series against the West Indies at the Ferozshah Kotla in New Delhi in 1974. The third Test of the series, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, ended on New Year's Day in 1975. Venkataraghavan was dropped from the team, the Nawab of Pataudi Junior (Mansur Ali Khan) replaced him as captain. Anshuman Gaekwad (the Indian opening batsman who later coached India) and left-arm medium-pacer bowler Karsan Ghavri made the Test debuts. The West Indies won the Dehi Test by an innings and seventeen runs. India won the third Test by 85 runs.
