It is celebrated throughout the Buddhist areas of Himachal Pradesh, especially spectacular in the monasteries of Lahaul.
On this eve, the stylised CHHAAM Dance also called Devil dance is performed.
The imagery is as rich as the lavish and elaborate costumes & masks are worn by them at this time. The event itself commemmorates the assassination of the cruel Tibetan King Langadarma , who ruled in the 9th century.
It is celebrated in the month of February
