There are sapta dhatus not astha dhatus, dhatus are basically body tissues.The meaning of the sanskrit word dhatu is that which binds together. Dhatu is the element which constructs our body.In ayurveda there are 7 dhatus,They are:

1 Nutritive fluid -plasma (rasa),
2 Blood (rakta),
3 Muscles (mansa),
4 Fatty tissue (med),
5 Bones (asthi),
6 Bone marrow and nervous tissue (majja) and
7 Semen and Reproductive fluid (shukra).

Dhatus protect our body from external encounters. They are responsible for our immune mechanism. Ayurveda recognizes shukra as the most important dhatu. It states that "a hundred drops of blood (rakta) are needed to produce one drop of semen (shukra). Shukra is the essence of all the body tissues and is that creation of mother nature which has the capacity to produce new life.
