Coast guard is the 4th armed force of india. it comes under the ministry of defence. It patrols our vast coastline. It performs various functions at sea like anti-smuggling, anti poaching, pollution control, aid to fishermen in distress, help fishermen during cyclone at sea etc. For this functions, coast guard has several ships classified as AOPV(Advanced Opshored Patrolling Vessel), OPV( Opshored Patrolling Vessel), IPV(Inshored Patroling Vessel), FPV(Fast Patrolling Vessel) and other fast boats. The coast guard also has air wing of it. It contains chetak, ALH(Advance Light Helicopter) and Dornier aircrafts. It is mainly response for our coastal security. Indian Coast Guard is an Armed forces of India and, ICG is not a part of the Indian Paramilitary Forces. . The coast guard works closely with the Indian navy and the Indian Customs Department.
