Archie Jackson played eight Tests for Australia. A teenage prodigy, he played first grade cricket at only 15 years of age and was selected for New South Wales at 17. Jackson's Test and first-class career coincided with the early playing years of Don Bradman; and some observers thought he was the better batsman among the two. He was seen as a stylish and elegant batsman, with a genius for timing and placement. Early in the 193132 season, Jackson coughed blood and collapsed before the start of play in a Sheffield Shield match against Queensland, and was subsequently diagnosed with tuberculosis. He died in Brisbane on 16 February 1933 aged just 23.
