It was Nagar Sheth of Jetpur Shri Nautamlal B. Mehta (Kamdar) who was the first to use and bestow "Mahatma" for Shri Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on January 21, 1915 at Kamri Bai School, Jetpur, India. From then on, Gandhiji was known as Mahatma Gandhi. Read the original documents about the day Gandhi became Mahatma (Manpatra) by clicking here www.KamdarTree.com ! Also you will read similar Manpatra was given to Smt Kasturba Gandhi too,
Devchhandbhai's Signature is there with other 30-40 citizens signature too, all from Jetpur or Including Nautamlal Mehta , his younger brother Chimanlal Bhagavanji Mehta and many more, Furthermore "whole Manpatra was drafted and created, and was given and arranged of that function by Nagar Sheth (present time Mayor level ) Nautamlal Bhagavanji Mehta, original documents are still with his family trust. Yes there is a signature of devchandbhai as a respect ...more
