The GPS receiver/Transponder communicated with a satallite (one or more usually 3) to get its location which is accurate in few meters.

It works on the basis of the location of points on any part of this world by means of satellites. it has got a system of 24 satellites and gives information like the longtitude,latitude and altitude of a point. it was initially used for defense and military purposes and now it is provided free to all. there are phones which make use of gps..........
