A very good question. although i do not like to ask or attend questions related to religion, i thought this is a very good question to attend. Hinduism is a way of living and not a religion as anyother religion is defined in various dictionaries. it is the most ancient religion in India and may be in the world too. we do not have 'DHARMA GURUS' as are there in other religions who give directions and many times misguide common people. it is not run by any IMAAMS, POPS. it has been followed over the years wthout any so called LEADER.

It is natural that such questions comes to mind when a person is in ignorance.
The fact is that there is no such religion called Hinduism.
Indian is a person who lives in the land beyond River Indus (from the point of view of Persians)
The same river is also known as Sindhu. Certain tongues cannot pronounce S and turn it into H. Thus Sindhu becomes Hindu. Thus Hindu and Indian are synonymous to each other.
No book pertaining to the traditional ancient Indian religious beliefs mentions the Hindu

In sanatana dharma there is freedom of thought, there is no rigidity, and i do not agree there is confusion in our religion, What we say is to reach god you have millions of paths that is what our religion tells usand you are free to follow which ever path you want to follow, but in christianity and Islam you have no freedom of thought, what ever is written in the book you have to follow blindly, questions cannot be asked,

Actuall confusion is exists in the case of Muslims and christians that is why they don't like each other sect, some times they resort to killing each other: Eg: Shia-Sunni and Catholic and Protestant (just go to google and type sub-group in christianity- you will get the answer as 41000 differenct small sub-group sub sect in christianity)

Essence of Indian culture is Hinduism so there are differences according to the culture prevailing in the particular places .In fact it is no contradiction. We have to accept and appreciate the native culture .Milk is a vegetarian food on some countries In some places it non-vegetarian. we have to accept both .Our personal choices can be different.
