Indian are very good individually and in individual sports such as CHESS, Billiards, Snookers, Shooting etc... they excel and have shown the world what they can do..but when it comes to perform as a team they fail miserably , even when India won the world cup in 1983 it was some individual performances that helped them the 175 Not Out by Kapil dev and then in Semi Final & Final Mohinder Amarnath bailed them out to win the world cup since then India is struggling to make a mark......Same is applicable in Hockey and football or any team game...
Basically we are never trained to become the part of a team since childhood ...

Too much of individuality is our national character.
Except in political field, our team-ship is boring.
