Temples have been ransacked by Muslim kings in the past. Even Tippu Sultan was not moderate and secular. Only politicians and pseudo seculars call him that secular. One can even see today's Vijayanagar Kingdom or Ayodhya. Intolerance is what those guys preached. There could be a few Abdul Kalam's who are moderate but thats less in number compared to fundamentalists. The basic reason for the problems are that they follow religion in the governance. Once it comes out then it could be different story.

Well I havent read Koran so I would go with what you say. In my view there are liberals and fundamentalists. Fundamentalists take advantage of certain rigidity in religions to pull them. incite and inculcate violence in their minds. They preach the word "Kafir" which in what I have understood means non believer in Islam. But I dont who professed that they should be forced to accept or not live. This is what fundamentalists believe which in turn has brought disrepute.

Every religion preaches peace , tolerance but people will interpret it their way, religions are very old it stays the same but different people of different era who came preached what they understood which could have been wrong, some manipulated also.
The basic values are right and the same but traditions, customs, rituals are definitely not suitable it must change with time in many religions.

When Somnath was mascred with 55 thousant to 1 lac Hindoos were killed in the name of infadility,no tolerant ant merciful expression came,nor till now,that any body could have openly expressed 'sorry',that was wrong,that should not have been.And then those type of events continued to covert what today is
