Mr. Khushwant Singh lashed out Hindu fundamentalists who filed criminal cases against Late M.F. Hussain. He further lamented that they forgot their own tradition of Khajuraho and Konarak sculptures and illustrations of Kama Sutra, depicting gods and goddesses engaged in sexual activities. Comments plz.
Very first, the stone figures sculpted there are not of gods and goddesses. These are pieces of art and culture. They portray that, for seeing the deity, one must leave sexual desires outside the temple. Just as the deities of the temples, those sculputures also show that divinity is pure like the "atma".., which is not affected by sexual desires and other characteristics of the physical body. If left some parts of the carvings that show sexual themes, the remaining sculptures demo the everyday life of the common Indian of the time when the carvings were made, and of various activities of other beings. For example, those depictions exhibit women putting on makeup, musicians, potters, farmers, and other folk.
