For me it is Vishwanathan Anand becoming Grandmaster & later World Champion ! As also you can not overlook the achievments of Prakash Padukone (1st Indian to win England Open), Michael Ferrera (1st Indian to become World Champion in Billiards), World Cup win by the Indian Cricket Team in 1983 & later the T20 World Cup! And off course most recently Abhinav Bindra clinching first ever individual Gold at Beijing Olympics !
