Ofcourse, Hockey is loosing its appeal globally since there are very few international tournaments, There is no big money attached with the game, There are no Club types of format , No country has taken up hockey in a big way, players are unknown , they hardly get any face value through advertisements..... There is no proper marketing strategy to promote and make hockey a popular game.

In India cricket was taken up at a bigger level and tournaments are conducted by BBCI like IPL ...Club owners are Renowned faces in India hence they promote cricket very well. No body has come forward to take Hocket to that level where cricket is now. Crowd will get attracted only when they learn about the game, when they watch game regularly on TV etc... Crowd is ignorant and unaware about the game ..hence the charm of the game and game is getting killed.

Hockey is not receiving the encouragement it deserves, especially in India. Its players are neglected and not paid well. GOI has not done anything to popularize it in schools and colleges. Hockey Federation is always mired in controversy. Even yesterdays media report talk about it. However, hockey is definitely gaining popularity in foreign countries and today more countries are playing hockey compared to the past and they have improved the game and India lags behind many foreign countries in Hockey technology.
