Everyone makes mistakes and Nehru had his share of them. His pseudo-secularism of minority appeasement (still being followed by his descendants) is playing havoc with the country today.
But still India was lucky to have him. While our twin brother across the western border, continues look for an identity, it was Nehru's leadership which laid foundations for democracy and its related institutions.
He became PM when India emerged from two hundred years of slavery. Not even a pin was manufactured here. Since there were no big money bags, like Amabni, at that time he envisaged a mixed economy in which the government would manage strategic industries such as mining, electricity and heavy industries, serving public interest and a check to private enterprise.
The Indians, who are respected in the international corporates today, are products of IITs set up by Nehru. The foundation, of our second highest GDP growth in the world, were laid by him in construction of dams, steel plants, etc

I think all the wrongs Indian people are facing today are doings of the Nehru....had instead of him some one like Shashtri would have become the first prime minister things could have been for sure much much better today.
