Do not hammer it it develops minute cracks and life of the building is reduced you are 100% correct also extreme climate avoid over loading etc

There is nothing called too much maintenance..usually planned preventive measures are taken or maintenance per need is undertaken..however it is lack of maintenance which helps building collapse..
