Love is said to be the very basis for every relationship, then why do many a relationship break...?

In most of the cases, due to ego and lack of understanding. Other reasons are lack of trust, not enough money to spend on luxuries, lies, not being able to reach the expectations of the would be life partner.

If the relationship breaks..it means..there was no true love..it was just a blind love / attraction..

I too wonder when ego & cheat wins over love in some relationships! Are they more powerful emotions than love?
