Q.

In a bruising electoral blow, India's ruling Congress Monday lost the deposit in the Hisar Lok Sabha by-election in Haryana, where Anna Hazare campaigned against it, and was also defeated in the three assembly by-polls in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana. It was a sorry nought for the Congress, which rules in all the states barring Bihar. And a moment to savour for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with three of the candidates it backed winning their Oct 13 elections.- What is for the Congress to understand ?

That they have to probe themselves and answer all the short comings in them. They should present a strong Lok Pal bill with constitutional authority in the current session itself to prove that they are serious. They should present a white paper on black money and strong measures to unearth them. Hasten the probe against all the major scams and give essential support to conclude the trial and punish the guilty. Strengthen the internal security. All the above things are necessary to make the people believe that they are serious about corruption and clean government. Once they have done it people like Anna will support them. And with a lack lust-re BJP as the main opposition they can hope to win the next election.

Sir,Yet again the electorate have shown that they are not immature or ignorant of what is going on in the State as far as governance is concerned. It is a clear mandate of the people against the corruption. The result of the byelection clearly show that the electorate will not tolerate and their vote can't be purchased by anybody. It is a very good lesson for all the political parties in general and congress in particular that if they ignore the common people and act according to their whims and fancies the people will show them their place in the next election.
