The reaction of the Hindus was just knee jerk reaction set off by the circulated decision by the Muslim and Christian orthodoxy Masjid Imams and Pastors of the Church...a kind of fatwa to vote enbloc for the UDF coalition.
As the Hindus were not taken into confidence reagrding this fatwa...they felt alienated and unsafe...hence voted for the LDF...to safeguard their identity in the state.

This i have read it has happened so in Kerala . This shows minorities feel they are safe under Congress rule . And when such votes go in block people on the other side try to balance it out by consolidating their position to defeat such nefarious design . I am yet to read more on the subject .
