Because of the excessive humidity and the salt. Salt water increases the corrosion rates.

Due to Marine weather. Not all steels are marine weather resiatant, only few in India can with stand harsh conditions, TISCON TMT CRS, RINL TMT MRS, SAIL TMT HCR are well graded steels manufactured with thermo mechanical treatment with carbon around 0.15%, Copper, Manganese, Phospourous, which are corrosion resisting elements all put together not less than 0.5% and carbon equivalant of 0.45% maximum. These are well suited for marine conditions. All other TMT\'s are not up to the mark.
