The Devil you know is better than the Devil you dont know - thats the expression. Meaning it is better to deal with someone you know even if they are not ideal rather than deal with someone you do not know at all.

Its better to deal with an enemy you know rather than a do -gooder whom you dont. Its just a way of saying make sure you know where you keep your step
