Crispy deep-fried delights like French fries, tempuras, doughnuts, fried chicken and anything edible that is straight out of the deep fat fryer takes hours to digest and stay in the stomach for long, thereby boosting acid secretion in the gut, which eventually surges up to the esophagus. Result - heartburn and regurgitation. So, if you dont wish to be stuck with a flaring heart, stay away from fried food items.Chocolate-chip cookies, brownies, gooey chocolate desserts and chocolate ice creams may be ultimate crowd-pleasers, but they dont really please your gut, more so if you are down with symptoms of GERD. Chocolate has higher concentrations of theobromine, which is known to unlax the esophageal sphincter and cause stomach acid to move up into the esophagus. Caffeine is believed to relax the lower esophagus, thereby leading to acidic regurgitation. Go healthy, switch on to green tea from Coffee, and bid adieu to your heartburn for good.Gulping soda pop, tonic water, carbonated soft dr ...more

Some of the usual foods that are known to cause heartburn, which leads to acid reflux disease, are: dairy products such as milk, cheese, yogurt, milk shakes, and ice cream; spicy foods; garlic and onions; high-carb foods like bread, macaroni, and spaghetti; fried foods; chocolate; alcoholic beverages; caffeinated beverages; beef; mashed potatoes; spearmint and peppermint; and tomato-based foods.

However, keep in mind that each persons food triggers may differ from another persons. For example, while tomato-based foods may not trigger off acid reflux symptoms in one person, it may do so in somebody else. The best way to find out which foods do trigger off acid reflux symptoms is to maintain a food diary, jotting down the foods that do cause the symptoms.

Take 2 or 3 Garlic Cloves(Preferably Farm, not Hybrid). Without peeling the skin, hold it in a tweezer and hold it on the fire directly (you can hold it on the gas stove or if you have electric cooker, place a thin based wok and roast in it. When the Garlic is roasted, unpeel it and chew the garlic well. Swallow the garlic and drink a glass of water. This is a natural way to overcome gastric problems. Constant use will gradually reduce the problem.

If you do not eat garlic, Take a glass of well beater buttermilk (lassi). Mix about half a teaspoon cumin powder(jeera powder) and drink it everynight.

Avoid potatoes and practise a good Breathing excercise. Yoga also is known to give relief. Ensure you have food regularly in correct intervals. Every morning drink a glass of water which will help detox and everynight before you hit bed,, drink a glass of warm water.
