That places a double role in the person........such hypocrite leaders are good for the party but impotent as far as society is concerned. We shud never forget that party is FOR the people and not people for party ! A responsible leader wud certainly raise his voice inside the party first and then stand with the party where party decides against his wish. But he has duty to the people, he can say....my personal opinion is such and such, I have already stated that within the party, but now as Party has decided otherwise, I am standing by the party !

Yes, however, should be for the right cause only. Defending for the sake of 'defending' will, erode his (the leaders') popularity. Popularity is hard-earned, cannot be compromised for a Platter.
