The Union govt was in a quandary as on one hand they are supporting the AAP govt in Delhi and on the other hand there was a clear violation of law with this Dharna of section 144 applied in Delhi due to intelligence on terror threat on the forthcoming Republic Day. They did not want to be seen as the villain by using excessive Police force on the demonstrators in the Dharna and repeat the mistake that happened after the Nirbhaya rape case. Thus they gave leeway to Kejriwal for one day, offered him a face saver by sending two cops on leave, thus it was a win-win situation for both the Union govt and the AAP.
Now that PIL has been filed about this incident as it was a clear violation of the spirit of law, both the Union and AAP govt have to give suitable reply with regard to their actions in the whole episode.
