The term Sastra need not necessarily be understood as a bundle of ritualistic injunctions, strictly followed and sacredly insisted upon by the fanatic orthodox. The textbooks discussing the Theory-of-Truth (Brahma-Vidya) and the technique of self-perfection (Yoga) are called Sastras, while other subsidiary books which explain and throw light upon the Sastras are called Prakarana texts; the latter explain the categories in the Science of Vedanta. Since the Geeta is a philosophical poem, exhaustively explaining the theory and practice of God-realisation, IT IS CONSIDERED AS A Sastra!!

Yoga basically means to join back or go back to the root. The science of how to achieve the re union with the Atman (which is regarded as the root for all being) is called Yoga Shastra. There are various schools of thought on how the re union with Atman (i.e Yoga) can be achieved. Some believe it can be achieved by Bhakti or Love (Bhakti Yoga) . Some believe it can be achieved through complete concentration on one's work or duty (Karma Yoga). Some believe it is to be achieved through Knowledge (Gyan Yoga). There is a 4th School of thought that advises Yoga to be achieved by taking care of one's physical self and meditation. This system is called Raja Yoga or Astanga Yoga. The 'Yoga' which we normally hear people taking about is actually the Raja type. This founder of this type of Yoga was a Sage called Patanjali. He suggested Yoga can be achieved by meditating on the Atman itself. In order to mediate one should follow certain steps and discipline in like - 1) Control on Diet (Yama), ...more

AUM
Maharishi Patanjali prescribed YOGA for spiritual upliftment of soul. The correct method of achieving it is : ASHTANG YOGA , that is EIGHTFOLD Path to the goal. The goal is Realisation of Ishwar or Ishwar Pranidhan. May I suggest that the Inquisitive disciple should contact Swami Satyapati Maharaj, Acharya of Gurukul at Rojad, Banaskantha,Gujarat and learn Yoga under the guidance of a Guru.
There are a number of Acharyas there and suitable guidance will be forthcoming.

I think there is no similarity between word sastra and Darshan .Each can be defined separately. We may be confused by these words. Actually Yoga is related to Darshan .
