Q.

The decision of d govt. of India to ban chocolate or chocolate products from China should be hailed as a good move. It is believed widely that d Chinese authorities treat industrial workers inhumanly & do not bother 2 pay them well & their low quality products do not last long when put to actual use. There is a need to mount a constant vigil on all Chinese products so dat Indian domestic market is not wrongly flooded by them at d peril of indigenous ones.Comments plz.

Indian Government should ban not only chocolates but all the products that are being imported from China. Chinese product are not only of substandard quality but they manufacture lot of spurious products that could be harmful for health. They are cheap and people buy them in preference to our own indigenous product, which is discouraging Indian manufacturers from producing quality products themselves.

In this scenario of global liberalization, I am afraid it is not possible. But we can set standards like ISI etc for all imported goods, be it chocolate or anything so that we get only good quality products for our money.Do you know "Papads" and "pickles" are marketed in European nations and USA with great success? If you have quality you can win anywhere. Many of our cracker units have set up their factories in China and have captured sizable market of Chinese products in USA and elsewhere.

They have different categories marked of products for exports, depending on the maturity of markets they address , however, they tend to send and/or smuggle in low quality products to India, Nepal, etc. may be the govt. should look into it; vis a vis international anti-dumping laws and border security must be tightened ...

Yes...agreeing wid u fully...for the sake of survival of globalisation conceptuality, you cant bring people of our own nation in to the roads. certain things are okay theoretically, but practically depriving the masses from their only sources of bread n butter is a kind of sin...a good move indeed...

Indian markets need protectionism, but not just from China. Domestic market in India (unless for products which we don't produce locally) should NEVER be given to outslanders whether it's China or Ethiopia or the US.

And I am sorry Indian work conditions are nothing to be proud of, esp. in our sweatshops. Go visit a bangle factory unit in Mumbai. The workers look as if they're 80 yr old but only 30. China labour > Indian labour, conditions wise, check HPI rates @ google.

A sweatshop in say- Shaaxi, though exploitative to the core, is MUCH better shape than a similar unit in INdia. Indian labour conditions pars w/ countries like Uganda. We need to maintain vigil 'coz Indian domestic market is for Indian industry. But not because Chinese treat their workers poorly.

I am in leather biz for past 10+ yrs, and in India, in leather shaving units, workers aren't even given a bloody 10 rupee mask. And many machine shops don't even give goggles or protective gear 2 welder's. And the ...more

For your kind information,
1. Workers in China are treated in much better way than workers in India. They are paid probably better (depending on the conversion rate). The labor cost may be cheaper than West, but not than India. However, their productivity is higher because of better management practices. Now this is one thing many individuals will not be able to digest for the simple reason that most of the participants of this forum are from middle level executives and it hurts to think that someone is doing a better job. However, it is truth.
2. The low cost is primarily due to acceptance of low margins and focus on building profits through volumes, instead of reduced volumes and higher margins. China is developing much like Japan. Hitachi is world's biggest Optical Drive manufacturer, but it focuses on building volumes of Optical drives instead of focusing on Laptop or Computer's market, where it can leverage its advantages in Optical Drives.
3. In many of the cases, people from ...more
