Q.
It is stipulated in our scriptures that a prayer for any departed soul must be made by specially mentionig name and other details. It is rather amazing that we all are praying for the peace of he departed soul, but her name is, I think, is hardly known by those who are praying for?

Yes Sir, that is the norm, according to religious edicts.
But, all religions (except one) also clearly mention about the inherent cognitive or perceptual powers of the mind ... the faculty bestowed upon us by our Creator! And that this should be used to the full!
So, we should make a good judgment here, that the departed soul's name is very well known to the One whom we are praying to rest her soul in peace.
