Maya, this is as per the belief system of a society and the culture it follows. French society gives women various freedoms that the eastern society cant think of. They believe making women wear burqa in the name of religion is sub consciously suppressing their personality and subjugating them before males. In the early 20th century, A muslim ruler of Turkey, Kamal Pasha, banned Burqa, hizab etc and forced women to wear Skirt. In 70s Jeans / trousers, sleeveless tops or blouses were considered vulgar for women in India and today showing underwear straps are considered fashionable. Many lovers in our country are killed by their parents while there are live-in relationships too in our society, which no religion approves of. Political and religious heads decide where they want to take their societies and accordingly they take steps. In our country majority of women believe that it is ok if their husbands beat them up occassionally but many other societies may not think so.
