I worked for the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, India, for over 33 years and then opted for VRS in 2007. Let me inform you that there are so many women Scientists in different laboratories/institutes of the CSIR as well as in ICAR, ICMR, ISRO and DRDO and other research organisations in India. I am sure there will be many in other countries also.

Forget about women. There are hardly anyone in India who invented anything useful to mankind. I count with fingers of those who did.
SN Bose, Sir CV Raman, Hargobin Kurana, Ramanujam, Amartya Sen.
When it comes to Western countries, their contribution is huge.

Anita Roberts: She was a molecular biologist who was instrumental in the discovery of the protein TGF-beta.
Annie Easley: She is an African American computer scientist who worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administrations Lewis Research Center
Barbara McClintock: She was an American scientist who won the prestigious Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1983.
Christiane Nusslein-Volhard: She is a German biologist who conducted a successful research in mutagenesis to demonstrate the embryonic development in fruit flies Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1995.
Diane Fossey: She was an American zoologist who completed an extensive study of eight gorilla groups by closely observing their lives in the mountain forests of Rwanda. Her work was similar to Jane Goodalls research on chimpanzees.
