Place of English in today\'s India is the Q ; if place is meant to be a locale then it abounds everywhere and with everyone in India without exception . From toddlers and onwards , schooled or never-schooled all have a vocabulary of 1500-2000 and more words of English lang. which they understand and pronounce more or less correctly or at least to be understood . Go anywhere in India everyone will know if you ask for a glass or a cup ; train , car or a bus and even a tractor or scooter none will fail to understand . English language is a measure of education in India. A person who can speak english is considered well educated and a person who is very well qualified but does\'nt know english is treated as a illitrate. A great example is our hindi film actors speak hindi in the films but in award function they can not speak hindi or rather they show that they don\'t know any other language than english.

The position the English language holds the world over can never be disputed, even by the hardest native linguistic fanatic ! In India, it serves as the link language among the educated class of the different states In that aspect, English language has an edge over the national language , that is Hindi We, as a nation, has made tremendous strides in the Information Technology sphere solely because of the command we Indians have in the language It is an oft repeated opinion that once the Chinese master the language, India will lose its position as the number one player in the International IT sector No one can belittle or ignore theimportance of the English language in shaping the Indian economy
