Preferabily it is a choice due to beauty ,attraction, and may be less in weight.
Many young and smart girls dream to become an Air-Hostess. A host of domestic and foreign airliners provide amazing employment avenues to such promising young women. With the adoption of 'open sky policy', career alternatives in the civil aviation sector have grown manifold. Today, chasing the exciting dream of becoming an Air-Hostess is closer and truer than ever before.
The foremost duty of an Air-hostess is to welcome and help the travellers in making the journey as smooth as possible. An Air-Hostess has her task cut out in providing in-flight information, demonstrating emergency-safety regulations, and treating the travellers with gourmet meals. All additional assistance sought by passengers is extended by an Air-Hostess in making the journey pleasant and comfortable.

This is because mostly girls are soft spoken and men are attracted more to girls than boys.
and basically they need hostesses not hosts so girls are appointed for the job.
