This is what tree major Abrahmic religion have ro say about the man's fall from the grace of God:
The three religions agree on one basic fact: Both women and men are created by God, The Creator of the whole universe. However, disagreement starts soon after the creation of the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve. The Judaeo-Christian conception of the creation of Adam and Eve is narrated in detail in Genesis 2:4-3:24. God prohibited both of them from eating the fruits of the forbidden tree. The serpent seduced Eve to eat from it and Eve, in turn, seduced Adam to eat with her. When God rebuked Adam for what he did, he put all the blame on Eve, & quote The woman you put here with me --she gave me some fruit from the tree and I ate it."; Consequently, God said to Eve: "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband and he will rule over you." To Adam He said: "Because you listened to your wife and ...more

Satan, the devil used the body of the snake. Just teh way He uses man like Osama to bring evil on man. The tree of knowdledge is to be idependant of God and knowdledge. the other tree there was the tree of life, simbolising Jesus who gies life

It is one of the most heavily misinterpreted parable.
It was the right thing to eat the fruit of knowledge. If that hadnt happened, men wud still be like animals in tune with nature (paradise). It was the destiny of humans to go beyond nature, for doing that extraordinary act, humans had to be tempted for it. Satan who exposes all our weaknesses came to our rescue. And men as we know, are in the mind and seldom in the heart, but women are mostly in the heart. Heart is more susceptable to tempatations. So satan rightly approached the eve. And the tempatation worked. Humans got seperated from animals, they became free, knowledgeble and independent. They became like God, in the sense that they obtained the potential of rising to Godhood (enlightenment) ! Humans were freed from paradise only because they were worthy of it ! Thanks to satan and eve !

Well the snake discribed stands for SATAN, or Devil, and it was a test for Adam and Eve, to see if they Obey the Lord who created them or disobey. They failed the test.
