1) Coal is the primary fuel in thermal power plants. It is used in 68% Power plants in India.

2) Solar energy is also used to generate power : Solar power is the generation of electricity from sunlight, Solar Bowl in Auroville, India, concentrates sunlight on a movable receiver .

3) Hydropower : the production of electrical power through the use of the gravitational force of falling or flowing water. It is the most widely used form of renewable energy.

4) Wind Power : Capacity factors of other types of power plant are based mostly on fuel cost. INDIA ranks 5th in the world with a total wind power capacity of 9587 MW . Wind turbines have been used for household electricity generation.

5) Fossil fuel power plant : A fossil-fuel power station is a power station that burns fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas or petroleum (oil) to produce electricity.
