Q.
Do you think that hotel stay in India is much more expensive compared to similar quality of hotels in other countries?
For example, Malaysian capital can offer even a five star hotel rooms at a price as low as Rs. 6000 per night, something that cannot even be imagined in Indian capital or any other city. The currency (Rupee) is weak, yet the net price is much higher.
How do we expect tourism volumes to rise? Is it only foreigners or NRIs, who are supposed to do the tourism?

Yes - You are correct. Hotels in India are quite expensive in comparison with hotels outside. This may because of two reasons.
1. Either the people in hotel business are too greedy.
2. Or they have different cost calculation structures than other countries
Alternatively many people would give a third reason, which I would not believe - High porperty prices in India - because in China property prices are much higher - 2-3 times, still the hotel prices are much less in comparison with India.
As such, if you want lower prices for good hotels, I would suggest you booking on "No refund/ no cancellation" basis for chain-hotels to get the best prices.
3. Property prices might be very high. Howeve

If I compare hotel rates in India with USA they are almost same and sometimes cheaper.
Most five star hotels are Franchise hotels and they have to maintain their quality and that drives the price up.
